Rishabh Pant: Explosive batsman dropped from team, BCCI reveals the REAL reason | Details here

Rishabh Pant: According to a statement made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been dropped from India’s ODI squad for the series against Bangladesh. Pant was dropped for an unknown cause, but the BCCI medical staff was consulted before the decision was made, so the 25-year-old may have been suffering from a minor injury, according to the press statement.

Following a spate of poor performances, Pant’s status in the Indian team has been hotly contested. Pant’s century against England in July at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge Stadium was the game-winning score for India. Since then, he has failed to score a single half-century, with his highest score coming against the West Indies in Lauderhill at 44.

Rishabh Pant’s poor form across format

In recent T20Is, he has struggled, posting scores of 14, 17, 20*, 27, 3, 6, and 11 in the format. Pant’s slump persisted in the recently concluded ODI and T20I series as he scored 42 runs in four innings.

KL Rahul will be batting in the middle order for India in the ODI in Dhaka with Shikhar Dhawan and captain Rohit Sharma as the star opening duo now that Pant is out of the lineup. When Rohit said that the squad is struggling with a number of injuries and that fast bowler Mohammed Shami had already been ruled out owing to a shoulder issue, he further suggested that Pant may have sustained an injury.

Skipper Rohit Sharma speaks up

The Indian Captain had said, “Some injures and few issues, we got four all-rounders playing. Washington, Shardul, Shahbaz, Deepak Chahar. Kuldeep Sen is making his debut. Myself, Shikhar and Virat up the order. KL Rahul will keep wickets.”

Pant is aware that he will face stiff competition for the job of India’s wicketkeeper in the two white-ball formats, with players like Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan breathing down his neck. When asked about his performance in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, Pant played down similarities during a recent interview, and appeared to be irritated.
