SA20 2023: With a five-wicket victory over the Paarl Royals on January 19 at Boland Park in Paarl, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape extended their winning streak in the current SA20 2023 tournament.
Kaviya Maran, the owner of the Sunrisers franchise, was also in the headlines, but not because she was watching her team’s play from the stands; rather, it was because a spectator had used her name to sign a poster that included a marriage proposal.

The cameras focused on a spectator watching the game seated on the grass area with a banner that read, “KAVYA MARAN, WILL YOU MARRY ME?” with a heart emoji. This was after the Paarl Royals innings’ eighth over was over. SA20 quickly shared the fan’s marriage proposal on their official social media accounts.
Who is the IPL Mystery Girl Kaviya Maran?
Kaviya Maran is the daughter of Sun Network founder and one of the industry titans Kalanithi Maran. Along with co-owning Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Kaviya is also said to be associated with SUN music and all of the FM stations of the Sun TV Network. She also owns Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Maran has been actively participating in the yearly IPL auctions, when she can be seen debating plans and engaging in a heated bidding battle for players with some of the top SRH management officials. She also goes to Orange Army games, and over the past several years, her social media posts about how she feels about her team’s gameday performances have gone viral.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape had swept the MI Cape Town in their previous two games before their spectacular triumph over the Paarl Royals. They have won three of their five games, totaling 12 points, and are comfortably seated in second place behind Pretoria Capitals in the standings.
