Smriti Mandhana has set a new milestone in Indian women’s cricket by smashing the fastest ODI century ever by an Indian women’s batter. She achieved this remarkable feat during the third and final ODI against Ireland at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday.

Smriti Mandhana's Record-Breaking 70-Ball Century

She blasted a 70-ball century, surpassing the previous record held by regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who had scored the fastest hundred in 87 balls against South Africa in Bengaluru last year. Smriti’s 135 off 80 balls included 12 fours and 7 sixes, with a strike rate of 170.9.

Historic Partnership with Pratika Rawal

Smriti Mandhana also created a record for the highest-ever opening partnership by an Indian women’s duo in a home ODI. She shared a 233-run opening stand with Pratika Rawal, a remarkable achievement for the team. Smriti's performance was key in setting up a dominant total for India.

Smriti Mandhana’s Stellar Year and ICC Nomination

The left-handed opener has had an impressive 2024 season, not just in ODIs but across all formats. In 2024, she scored 747 runs in 13 ODIs at an average of 57.46 and a strike rate of 95.15, including four centuries and three fifties. This outstanding run has earned her a nomination for the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award for 2024.
