T20 World Cup 2022: Though the hitters may have an edge in T20 cricket, there are still times when bowlers make amazing performances. Spinner Karthik Meiyappan created history on Tuesday at Geelong by taking a hat-trick in the T20I Round 1 encounter between Sri Lanka and the UAE. Meiyappan secured three wickets on the fourth, fifth, and sixth deliveries of the 15th over to help UAE get back into the game and write his name into history.

When Bhanuka Rajapaksa chose the aerial approach and was caught, Meyiappan first removed Dasun Shanaka on the fourth ball of the 15th over. Charith Asalanka was then given a golden duck after being caught behind by the wicketkeeper. Watch the video:
With his hat-trick, Meiyappan, who was born in Chennai, went on to make history and achieve some new benchmarks. In men's World Cups, Meiyappan is currently the only player from an associate team to score a hat-trick against a Test side. In terms of Men's T20Is, he is also the first hat-trick winner for the UAE.
There have now been five hat-tricks in T20 World Cup history. The other four bowlers who have taken three wickets in three successive deliveries in T20 World Cups are Brett Lee (2007), Curtis Campher (2021), Wanindu Hasaranga (2021), and Kagiso Rabada (2021).

Karthik Meiyapan made Charith Asalanka his victim on the very next ball. The ball was a googly, with extra bounce. In the process of playing a shot on this ball, Aslanka got eaten and the ball took the edge of his bat and got stuck in the gloves of the wicketkeeper.
After this Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka came on strike. Meiyapan also bowled a googly in the third ball, which the Sri Lankan captain could not read and was clean bowled. In this way he completed the hat-trick.
