Delhi’s government has launched an app that lets people book liquor online, and it has started a political fight. AAP leader Anurag Dhanda has attacked the BJP, calling its leaders the “real contractors” of liquor. Here is what happened, in simple words.
What Did Anurag Dhanda Say About the BJP?
Dhanda is AAP’s National Media In-charge. On 28 October 2026, he posted on X that the real liquor contractors are BJP people, and the veil is now lifting from people’s eyes. The post was short and sarcastic. It was a political charge, and he gave no documents or figures with it.
What Is Delhi’s Online Liquor Booking Facility?
According to reports, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has approved online liquor sales, with the government launching an app for it. Buyers can order retail liquor from government-licensed shops and must pay online. The same report says there is currently no home delivery, and buyers must be at least 25 years old. So this is online booking, not doorstep delivery.
DON'T MISS
Is This Idea New?
No. Earlier reports said the BJP-led Delhi government’s draft excise policy included a mobile app for real-time stock checks and pre-booking of favourite brands, aimed at transparency, convenience and revenue. Whether to charge a fee for pre-booking was still being discussed at that stage.
Why Is the Opposition Hitting Back?
Liquor has been a political flashpoint in Delhi for years. In December 2025, AAP’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said the same BJP that once objected to “too many” liquor vends is now pushing for showrooms at high-footfall locations.
The BJP, for its part, has long attacked AAP over the 2021-22 excise policy. AAP’s position is that the policy aimed to raise revenue, stop the sale of spurious liquor and improve the buying experience. Dhanda’s latest post fits this pattern, with each side using liquor policy to question the other’s intentions.
What Should Delhi Residents Know?
- Age limit: reports say buyers must be 25 or older.
- Licensed shops only: orders go through government-licensed outlets.
- Online payment: payment is required at the time of booking.
- Official details: check the Delhi government’s own announcements for the final rules, since early reports can change.
I could not find an official BJP response to Dhanda’s remarks at the time of writing. Readers should wait for statements from both sides.
