Bengal Elections 2026: Crude Bombs Hurled! BJP Leader Assaulted, SIR’s Dark Shadow Still Looms Large!

Bengal Elections 2026: Polling in West Bengal Phase 1 election started this morning. For the first time ever, 2407 companies of central forces could be witnessed in the state during assembly elections. Meanwhile, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) scarred population stood in long queues weeks before the appellate tribunals.

West Bengal Elections 2026-Attacks By Goons

According to media reports, Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons attacked a BJP Kisan Morcha leader and he was later admitted to Sub-Divisional Hospital in Mathabhanga.

A Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker’s house was attacked in Raipur village allegedly by TMC goons. A TMC worker has been arrested in this case.

In another development, a crude bomb was hurled at TMC candidate Sahina Mumtaz near a polling booth. Responding to the bomb incident, Aam Janata Unnayan Party Supremo Humayun Kabir remarked if stones are thrown at his people, those throwing stones should also be ready for retaliation.

SIR Electoral Rolls

The contest of 294 seats in the state of West Bengal has been marred by the deletion of more than 90 lakh voters via the ECI’s SIR initiative.

Sitting CM Mamata Banerjee said that the Election Commission of India deliberately deleted the names of Muslim community members to appease the BJP. On the other hand, BJP contended that Mamata has a soft corner for illegal immigrants and her party has tried and will always try all wrongdoings to include illegal immigrants in the state electoral rolls.

In another development, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) supremo Vijay urged the ECI for an extension of 2 hours, terming that the state is facing a transport paralysis as of now.

According to media reports, a large number of voters were left stranded and unable to cast their ballots within the stipulated time.

The voting process in the state is scheduled to conclude at 6 pm. Vijay is contesting from Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East.
