Chirag Paswan: The Bharitiya Janta Party National President J. P Nadda has sent a letter to leader of National President of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan inviting him to the meeting of NDA in Delhi. The letter sent by Nadda emphasizes that LJP is an integral part of the alliance. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be held on July 18.
Infighting in LJP
Ram Vilas Paswan was the most prolific Dalit leader in Bihar and his alliance with BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha elections thoroughly cemented him as a leader of national recognition.
After the death of Ram Vilas Paswan in late 2020, his brother Paras Paswan and son Chirag Paswan had a falling out over control of LJP party and legacy of the deceased leader. Paras Paswan is Union minister for food processing, a portfolio that was held by Ram Vilas Paswan in the NDA government earlier. With one eye on Lok Sabha polls in Bihar, BJP is trying to cement an alliance with the LJP which suggests that BJP might tilt in favpur of the young leader. There are rumors of Chirag Paswan getting a National portfolio for cementing strong alliance with BJP going forward.
Why is letter significant?
The letter was sent before NDA’s big meet just 2 days before start of the Monsoon session in the new Parliamentary building. By sending the letter to Chirag Paswan it seems that BJP leadership is accepting him as the main authority of their most important alliance party in Bihar.
LJP is divide among two factions with 6 MPs under the Belt of Paras Paswan in Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and Chirag as sole MP in Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). The fight for legacy has been bitter and has gotten more intensified since the Election Commission formalized the split in party ranks. There are loty of questions over Paras’s role if Chirag Paswan gets national portfolio and favoured treatment by the BJP. AS BJP has failed multiple times to mediate a settlement between Chirag and Paras, it is clear where the party is putting weight for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
