Coastal Andhra, TN Brace for Cyclone Michaung’s Dec 5 Landfall, Orange Alert Issued

Cyclone Michaung is expected to make landfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh on December 5, so get ready for the storm.

Cyclone Michaung: With a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal gaining strength and travelling 9 kmph west-northwest over the last six hours, the India Meteorological Department issued a warning today. The centre of the depression was located at Latitude 10.3°N and Longitude 85.3°E as of 11 p.m. on December 1, or roughly 630 km east-southeast of Puducherry.

IMD Bulletin Pinpoints Cyclone’s Location

According to the most recent IMD bulletin, the storm is located 630 km east-southeast of Chennai, 740 km southeast of Nellore, 810 km southeast of Bapatla, and 800 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam. It is anticipated that the system will continue its west-northwestward trajectory, strengthening into a Deep Depression over the course of the next 12 hours, and by December 3, developing into Cyclonic Storm “Michaung” over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

Northwestward Movement Leading to Coastal Proximity

According to forecasts, the cyclonic disturbance will move northwest and by the afternoon of December 4 it should be close to the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh. The system is expected to move almost due north, paralleling and near the coast of south Andhra Pradesh. It is predicted to make landfall on December 5 in the forenoon between Nellore and Machilipatnam. The maximum sustained wind speed of the cyclonic storm is predicted to be between 80 and 90 kmph at that time, with gusts as high as 100 kmph.

District Heads Confer with CM Stalin on Cyclone Preparedness

Twelve heads of district administration met for a review on Friday with MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The possibility of significant rainfall impacting several districts in Tamil Nadu during the next two to three days was discussed at the meeting. Stalin issued the necessary directives and gave all concerned officials the go-ahead to implement preventative measures, such as evacuating residents from areas thought to be at risk of the approaching cyclone.

NCMC Chaired by Cabinet Secretary Gauba Assesses Cyclone ‘Michaung’ Preparedness

On Friday, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), led by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, examined state and federal government readiness for the approaching cyclone “Michaung” in the Bay of Bengal. Meteorological authorities in southern and eastern India have issued a comprehensive rainfall warning due to the approaching cyclonic storm over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

Light to Moderate Showers for Puducherry and North Coast Tamil Nadu

On December 2, most locations in Puducherry and North Coast Tamil Nadu are expected to see light to moderate rainfall, with a few areas expected to see heavy rainfall. Beginning on December 3, there will be an increase in the intensity of the rain, with rain expected in most locations and heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in a few. On December 3, isolated, exceptionally heavy rainfall is predicted. On December 4, precipitation is predicted in most areas, with isolated areas experiencing heavy to extremely heavy downpours. On December 5, there’s probably going to be a brief period of heavy to extremely heavy rain, followed by a drop in precipitation.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh Faces Increasing Rainfall Intensity

On December 3, coastal Andhra Pradesh residents should brace themselves for light to moderate rainfall in most areas, which will increase to heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few spots and extremely heavy rainfall in a few specific locations. On December 4, the pattern persists, with rain falling in most locations and exceptionally heavy downpours in certain areas. On December 5, isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rainfall are predicted over the south coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, and isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall over the north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.
