The initiative, organised by Akshaya Patra Foundation, seeks to provide students with energy-rich nourishment at the start of the school day. Addressing the event, Gupta said the visible happiness among children reflected how proper nutrition directly supports their growth, focus, and overall development.

She added that the Delhi government would extend full support to the programme

She added that the Delhi government would extend full support to the programme, calling it a “noble endeavour” aligned with broader educational and welfare goals. According to her, ensuring children begin their day with adequate nutrition can significantly enhance classroom participation and long-term academic outcomes.

Highlighting existing welfare measures, the chief minister noted that the mid-day meal scheme has already connected millions of children to schools and contributed to both physical and mental development. She emphasised that supplementary initiatives like the morning nutrition programme would further strengthen these gains by addressing hunger during early school hours.

Officials associated with the programme said it is designed to complement existing nutrition schemes rather than replace them. They added that partnerships between government bodies and civil society organisations can help expand reach, improve efficiency, and ensure that vulnerable children receive consistent nutritional support.

Education experts have welcomed the move, observing that morning nutrition interventions have been linked globally to improved attendance, better concentration levels, and reduced dropout rates, especially among economically weaker sections.
