Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation declared on Wednesday that there will be a delay in metro services on the pink line from Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus to Lajpat Nagar. On other routes, however, train services will continue to run as usual.
DMRC's Twitter Alert on Pink Line Delay
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DMRC wrote, “Pink Line Update: Delay in services from Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus to Lajpat Nagar. Normal service on all other lines." While this was going on, the Delhi metro began adding 20 more train excursions to its schedule due to the air quality in some areas of Delhi, NCR, declining to the "severe" level. The goal of this is to get more and more people in the nation's capital and the nearby cities of Noida, Ghaziabad, and others to use public transportation.
Delhi Metro's Response to GRAP-II Activation
When the GRAP-II stage takes effect on October 25, Delhi Metro will begin operating 40 more train rides on weekdays (Monday through Friday). The national capital's skyline and the surrounding surroundings were shrouded in a dense haze, with several spots seeing Air Quality Index (AQI) readings below 400. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that the AQI was 491 at Jahangirpuri and 498 at Mundka. Numerous Noida areas saw a drop in AQI that qualified as "severe."
Delhi Government Shuts Down Elementary Schools Amid Air Quality Crisis
On Thursday, the government of Delhi issued an order closing all public and private elementary schools for the next two days. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Thursday due to the deteriorating quality of the air. When the AQI falls between 401 and 450 points and reaches Severe, the GRAP moves into Stage III. The state administration may enforce stringent limitations on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in specific regions as part of its reaction to mitigate pollution.
