Delhi NCR Weather Update: Tuesday was a bad day for flooding in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Yamuna River went over the danger mark, and water entered several parts of Delhi. The constant rain over the last 48 hours has caused the river to rise, flooding low-lying areas and causing people to leave their homes.

The water level in the Yamuna reached 205.75 meters, which is higher than the danger mark of 205.33 meters set by the Central Water Commission. Officials reported that a number of areas along the riverbank were flooded, including some close to the Old Railway Bridge. People said there was water up to their knees in their homes, and some moved to rescue camps set up by the Delhi government.

The rain is really bad in Gurugram

While Delhi was dealing with floods, Gurugram was also having a tough time because it had more than 100 mm of rain in one day. There was a lot of flooding and traffic jams because of the rain. On busy roads, like the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, cars got stuck in two to three feet of water.

In response to the situation, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) told schools to hold classes online and told businesses to set up rules that let employees work from home. “Safety comes first.” “We ask people not to travel unless they have to,” the Gurugram government said in a message.

Flights and traffic were hampered

Heavy rains also made it hard to get around in NCR. Airlines, such as IndiGo and Air India, told customers that they would be late because of flooded roads leading to the airport. Bad visibility made the problems worse, so many planes were delayed or had to go in a different direction.

On the ground, there were long traffic jams in Gurugram, and the cops got more than 200 calls from people who were stuck on the road. Emergency teams with pumps and rescue cars were sent to dry out areas that were still wet, but it was still hard for commuters during rush hour.

IMD Sends Out Orange Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that it will rain more in the next 24 hours and has issued an orange alert for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. Officials said that any more rain could make things worse since the Yamuna was already running above the danger mark.

At the same time, parts of Uttarakhand and Punjab are also getting a lot of rain, which makes people worry that more water will run into the Yamuna. The barrage levels are being closely watched by the government to make sure that the floods from July don’t happen again.

The authorities are on high alert

Rescue and rescue work is going on in both Delhi and Gurugram. People who live near the Yamuna floodplains have been told by the Delhi government to move to safer places right away. More than a dozen boats and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent to help people get out of the area.

More rain is expected, so people have been told to stay inside, stock up on necessities, and avoid driving on roads that are too wet. As the NCR gets ready for another rainy time, officials said again that public safety is the most important thing.
