Ghaziabad News: Safety Inspection for 25km Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Link Anticipated Soon

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to perform a rail safety examination in the next two weeks, which could bring about a major development for the Ghaziabad-Meerut stretch of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

Ghaziabad News: The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, which stretches 25 km from Duhai in Ghaziabad to Meerut (south), is undergoing rapid train trials. As a result, officials of the executing agency, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), announced on Friday that the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) may inspect the project during the next two weeks, allowing for the section to be opened to the public.

Expansion of RRTS Connectivity

As soon as the segment is open, the Meerut (south) RRTS station would provide RRTS connection from Ghaziabad to the doorstep of western Uttar Pradesh. In Ghaziabad, a 17-kilometer priority segment of the RRTS is now in use, connecting Sahibabad and Duhai.

Along with Meerut (south) in Meerut, the 25km stretch will include three further stations: Muradnagar, Modinagar (north), and Modinagar (south) in Ghaziabad. The priority section currently has five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad.

Projected Completion of RRTS Project

With a construction cost of ₹30,274 crore, the 82km RRTS project would connect the three cities of Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut by June 2025. “It is expected that the CMRS inspection of the 25km section may happen in the next fortnight. This will pave the way for making this stretch operational,” said an NCRTC official, asking not to be named.

According to sources, the section’s opening and inspection will probably take place prior to the Lok Sabha elections being announced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the project’s foundation stone in Ghaziabad on March 8, 2019, one day before the 2019 Lok Sabha election results were announced.

Rapid Progress of 25km Section

“The work on the 25km section from Duhai in Ghaziabad to Meerut (south) is progressing at a fast pace. The finishing work at the stations are also underway and speed trials of trains are ongoing. We will shut down operations on the 17km priority section on February 10-11 for another round of integrated trials,” said Puneet Vats, chief public relations officer, NCRTC.

In order to permit integrated trials, work on the 17 kilometre stretch were also suspended on January 20 and 21. According to NCRTC officials, the priority segment and the 25 km section are both elevated. According to them, there are 25 stations total throughout the 82 kilometre RRTS project, with 8 located in Ghaziabad, 13 in Meerut, and 4 in Delhi.
