Ghaziabad News: According to people with knowledge of the situation, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 72-kilometer Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor between the planned greenfield Noida international airport in Jewar and the 17-kilometer priority section of Ghaziabad.

Leadership in Action

DS Mishra, the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, presided over a meeting on Monday during which the ₹1,600 crore project to link Noida airport with the National Capital Region (NCR) towns of Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Delhi was approved. Along with others, representatives from the Yamuna Motorway Industrial Development Authority, Noida authority, and Uttar Pradesh civil aviation department attended the meeting.

Government's Forward Step

“After approving the RRTS route, the Uttar Pradesh government has asked the National Capital Region Transport Corporation to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of this corridor in the next two months. Once the DPR is finalised and approved, the project will witness further progress,” said a state government official, asking not to be named.

Strategic Exploration

The state government and Yeida had requested in October of this year that NCRTC investigate the possibility of establishing two Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) routes: one from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, via the DND Flyway, Noida Motorway, and Yamuna Motorway to the greenfield airport, and another via Greater Noida West and the central region of Greater Noida city to the airport in Jewar.

Project Acceleration

Mishra requested that NCRTC work on the Ghaziabad to Jewar route via Greater Noida West during the Tuesday meeting. “The Sarai Kale Khan route and the Greater Noida routes have been rejected and the route from Ghaziabad to Jewar via Greater Noida West has been approved paving way for the further work on the project. This project is expected to become operational by 2030 if all goes as planned,” said an official who attended the meeting, asking not to be named.

Multi-Sectoral Support

According to officials, the project will be funded in part by the Uttar Pradesh government, in part by the Centre, Yeida, and the Greater Noida authority will cover the remaining thirty percent. After the Prime Minister officially opened this corridor in October of this year, trains on the 17 km priority section of the RRTS in India began operating. There are five stations along this 17-kilometer stretch: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.

Futuristic Connection

This 17 km segment will be opened in 2025 as a part of an 82 km corridor that will link Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Delhi. The 72-kilometer route will begin at the Ghaziabad station and terminate at the Noida airport located in Jewar. Before arriving in Jewar, this route will travel via Greater Noida West, Surajpur, and Ecotech Pari Chowk, according to the official previously cited. In addition, by the end of 2024, when the airport will be operational, the UP government has instructed the NCRTC to begin feeder bus services from Jewar airport to Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad with 31 electric buses, according to officials.
