In light of the recent unrest in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has made a striking statement. Addressing the issue of anti-social elements involved in the violence, Raut suggested that such individuals should be dealt with as in Uttar Pradesh, where strict measures are taken against criminal activities.
Raut’s remarks come in the wake of a tense situation in Kolhapur. The city was gripped by turmoil following an offensive social media post featuring the image of Tipu Sultan, an 18th-century Mysore ruler. Raut, during his address, advocated for a stringent approach to combat this sort of antisocial behaviour.
Sanjay Raut Faces Threats Amidst Tensions
Simultaneously, disturbing news of death threats against Sanjay Raut has emerged. His brother, Sunil Raut, revealed that a threat was made against the Shiv Sena leader, indicating that these threats had been made before but had not resulted in any government action. According to Sunil, the anonymous caller cautioned against Sanjay Raut holding press conferences, threatening severe consequences otherwise.
Despite these threats, Sanjay Raut continues to express his views, raising concerns over the politics of polarisation and questioning the BJP’s reaction to the contentious portrait of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Following the violence in Kolhapur, police forces have been deployed, and peace committees have been established to maintain communal harmony. Over thirty individuals were arrested in connection with the unrest, and five cases relating to offensive social media posts were registered.
