Gurugram News: A district road safety committee has approved the widening of the two-lane service road from Gurugram’s Shyam Chowk to Shankar Chowk. It will now be widened to three lanes; a grade separated foot overbridge for pedestrians has also been proposed to ease traffic around Atrium Place in Udyog Vihar Phase-5.

What’s in the Proposal?

A joint site inspection was carried out by the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), DLF and Gurugram Traffic Police. After the meeting, the proposal for construction of a foot overbridge and road widening was approved.

Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonu Bhatt, the safety committee also discussed a series of other traffic improvement and road safety issues.

The Atrium Place land, which is in close proximity to the Income Tax Office, was purchased through an e-auction in the year 2018 for Rs. 1,496 crores from HSIIDC. Previously, a part of the plot was earmarked for a commodity center as well as a multi-level parking facility.

In 2004, the foundation stone was even laid for the parking facility by the then Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. However, the project failed to take off any further and was later sold by the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation.

Gurugram News-How Will It Help Pedestrians?

The proposed foot overbridge will help countless pedestrians who presently struggle to move across the roads between Cyber Hub and Udyog Vihar. During peak hours, traffic marshals are deployed for managing the movement by pedestrians.

The committee also granted approval for removing an obstructing tree that is presently located in the middle of the road at Wazirabad Chowk. The committee also issued instructions for installing reflective tapes on trees near footpaths.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner has also issued directions to all agencies involved in road construction so that accidents because of poor visibility during winter can be curbed. This includes proper construction as well as marking of speed breakers and reflective tapes on cement jersey barriers and transport vehicles.
