Haryana leader Anurag Dhanda has sharply criticized the state government, alleging that the sports infrastructure and athlete support system have deteriorated significantly under the BJP’s rule. He claimed that while athletes continue to bring glory to the nation through hard work and dedication, the government has failed to provide them even basic facilities like proper meals.
Haryana’s Sports Ecosystem “Hollowed Out Under BJP Government,” Says Anurag Dhanda
Dhanda accused officials and political leaders of misusing funds meant for athletes, stating that the crisis in sports facilities reflects not a lack of resources, but “a clear case of mismanagement and corruption.” According to him, the budget allocated for sportspersons is being siphoned off, leaving trainees without essential support.

The issue surfaced after reports from the Panchkula Sports Excellence Centre, where athletes allegedly faced a sudden stoppage of meals and were forced to go on leave. Dhanda stated that players were pressured by officials to write applications for leave against their will. In one instance, the District Sports Officer reportedly questioned athletes about whether they had vacated the hostel, raising concerns of intimidation.
Parents and local sports associations have expressed worry over the administration’s handling of the situation, stating that players preparing for national and international events cannot afford such disruptions. Many noted that Haryana—long known as a powerhouse in wrestling, boxing, kabaddi, and athletics—is now witnessing a decline in athlete welfare.
Dhanda emphasized that the state once prided itself on producing Olympians and world champions, and warned that continued neglect could harm the future of emerging talent. He also demanded accountability from sports authorities and urged the government to immediately restore food services, hostel facilities, and training support.
The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the state of sports governance in Haryana and raised questions about transparency in the use of public funds meant for athletes.
