The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has received approval from the World Bank to proceed with the civil tender for Phase-II of the Gurugram Metro project, marking a significant step forward in the expansion of the city’s urban transit network. Phase-II of the project will cover a 13-kilometre stretch from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub and include the construction of 14 metro stations. The corridor is designed to improve connectivity across key residential, commercial, and industrial areas of Gurugram while integrating with existing public transport systems. The route will also connect with the Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail network through an interchange at Shankar Chowk, enhancing regional mobility.

The funding arrangement is part of a broader strategy

Officials stated that the World Bank’s approval is a crucial milestone, as the international institution is expected to finance a substantial portion of the project’s cost. The funding arrangement is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the implementation of the Gurugram Metro expansion and strengthen urban transportation infrastructure in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.

In addition to the metro corridor, authorities are also moving ahead with plans related to the project’s depot infrastructure in Sector 33. Officials have indicated that a fresh tender for the depot will be issued after an earlier bidding process received limited participation.

The Gurugram Metro project is expected to play a major role in reducing traffic congestion, improving last-mile connectivity, and promoting sustainable urban mobility. State authorities have described the expansion as a key component of Haryana’s long-term infrastructure development strategy aimed at supporting economic growth and improving the daily commute of residents.
