Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a review meeting of the state’s Power Department and issued a series of directives aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure, improving service delivery, and planning for the state’s future energy needs.

The Chief Minister emphasized that electricity is a basic necessity and instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted 24×7 power supply across the state. He said there should be no compromise in efforts to provide reliable electricity to every household.

Hemant Soren directed the department to accelerate the installation of power grids, transmission lines, substations, transformers, smart grids, and smart meters. He also asked officials to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the next 10 to 15 years to meet Jharkhand’s growing energy requirements.
The Chief Minister instructed the department to expedite the recruitment of Junior Engineers (JE), Assistant Engineers (AE), and other essential personnel to strengthen the workforce and improve operational efficiency.
To enhance long-term energy security, he ordered feasibility studies on energy generation and energy storage in reservoirs and other potential locations. He also stressed the need to speed up the adoption of solar energy and rooftop solar installations across the state.
Hemant Soren further asked officials to prepare plans for expanding power generation in rural areas under the CMEGP scheme, establish new power grids and substations as per required standards, and increase the use of monopole transmission structures to reduce land requirements.
He also directed the department to coordinate with municipal corporations to ensure 100 percent functioning of street lights in urban areas and instructed officials to repair faulty transformers in both rural and urban regions within the stipulated time.
Highlighting the importance of technology, the Chief Minister called for the adoption of digital solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), and other modern technologies to drive reforms and improve the efficiency of the Power Department.
