High-Profile Twitter Accounts Hacked Again! Trinamool Congress Falls prey to Cyberattack in Ongoing Trend

Trinamool Congress: According to reports on Tuesday, the Twitter account of the Trinamool Congress was hacked. The hackers changed the name of the page to ‘Yuga Labs’ and altered the display picture. A tweet appeared on the page that discussed a welfare initiative called “#DidirSurakshakawach.” The tweet explained that the goal of the initiative is to ensure basic sustenance for all residents of Bengal, regardless of their age, gender, caste, or religion.

Trinamool Congress Twitter Account Hacked

This is not the first time that a high-profile Twitter account has been hacked. In December of last year, the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Twitter handle was also hacked, and suspicious tweets appeared on its page. The account was eventually restored after making a series of tweets that tagged around 80 bot accounts.

Trend of High-Profile Twitter Account Hacks Continues

Other incidents of high-profile Twitter accounts being hacked include the Facebook profile of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in October of 2022 and the Twitter account of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in May of the same year. In the case of the Congress leader, a purported tweet was sent from his account containing an infamous quote of Rajiv Gandhi that was connected to the 1984 riots, which was later deleted. The leader claimed that his Twitter account was compromised and reported the matter to Delhi Police. The Twitter account of Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda was also hacked in February. The hackers changed the account name to “ICG OWNS INDIA” and featured tweets on crypto donations. One tweet on JP Nadda’s Twitter account invited cryptocurrency donations for Ukraine aid.

Need for Increased Security Measures to Prevent Future Incidents

Lastly, in January of last year, the Twitter account of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was briefly compromised. The hackers changed the account name to ‘Elon Musk’ and put out tweets including one saying “great job”. They also posted malicious links in the tweets. High-profile Twitter accounts continue to be targeted by hackers, which highlights the need for increased security measures to prevent future incidents.
