The KIIT student suicide case has sparked widespread controversy, leading to protests and strong reactions. A third-year B.Tech student from Nepal was found dead in her hostel room on 16th February at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, triggering campus unrest. In response, the university declared a sine die closure, ordering all Nepali students to vacate the campus immediately on 17th February. However, this abrupt move led to severe backlash, with students and the public questioning the institute’s handling of the situation.

Amid mounting pressure and criticism over the KIIT student suicide incident, the university has now appealed to Nepali students to return and resume classes. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directly intervened, sending officials to counsel affected students and ensure their safety and well-being.

KIIT Urges Nepali Students to Resume Classes Amid Unrest

KIIT University has now urged Nepali students to return and resume their academic activities. Taking to social media platform X, the university stated that the authorities acted promptly after the incident. Police have already investigated the matter and taken action against the accused. The KIIT administration also assured that they are making every effort to restore normalcy in hostels and academic spaces.

The statement further appealed to Nepali students who had left or were planning to leave to reconsider their decision and rejoin their classes. This shift in stance comes after widespread concerns over the abrupt eviction of international students following the sine die notice.

Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli Sends Officials to Support Affected Students

Reacting to the KIIT Student Suicide case, Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the concerns of Nepali students studying at KIIT. 

In a post on X, he confirmed that the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officials to counsel affected students in Odisha. He assured that Nepali students would have the option to either stay in their hostel or return home based on their preference.

KIIT University Sets Up 24x7 Control Room and Helplines for Nepali Students

To assist Nepali students in returning to campus, KIIT University has established a dedicated 24×7 control room at Campus 6. The university has also set up two helplines (+91 7847064550 & +91 7855029322) to provide support and guidance. Additionally, for further assistance, students can contact the control room at KIIT Campus 6 at +91 8114380770.

As the situation unfolds, both KIIT University and the Nepalese government are making efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected students.
