Kolkata Building Collapse: On Sunday at midnight, a significant accident happened in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, in the Metiabruz region. A five-story structure fell apart. As a result, the impoverished areas nearby were also impacted. After being buried beneath the rubble, two women passed away. 13 individuals have been extracted from the wreckage and brought to the medical facility. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, has been to the scene of the accident. He stated that the search and rescue effort is ongoing. Families of those killed and injured will receive financial support.

Rescue Efforts Underway

According to West Bengal's Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Sujit Bose, 13 persons have been saved thus far in the rescue effort. There could be more persons buried beneath the rubble. Hasina Khatoon, 55, and Shahana Begum, 47, have been named as the deceased.

Location and Timing of the Incident

This incident occurred in Kolkata Municipal Corporation ward number 134 at approximately midnight. This predominantly Muslim neighbourhood is very populous. The under-construction building was surrounded by huts. The structure collapsed upon a cabin. Locals have claimed that construction is unlawful. This also involves the administration's complicity. Dr. Indranil Khan, the state president of BJP Yuva Morcha, arrived at the location. However, the cops forbade them from entering.

Mamata Banerjee's Prior Statement

Mamata Banerjee expressed her sadness in an X-post before arriving at the accident scene, stating that she was aware of the collapse of an under-construction building in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation's Garden Reach neighbourhood. Attendees at the site throughout the night included the Mayor, Fire Minister, Secretary, and Police Commissioner, as well as officials and teams from the police, fire, and disaster management departments. will give the relatives of the injured and deceased recompense. We support the frightened families, and the rescue effort will go on.
