Private Plane Skids Off Runway at Mumbai Airport Amid Heavy Rain

A private plane skidded off the runway during its landing attempt at Mumbai Airport on a rainy Thursday evening. Fortunately, all eight individuals on board, comprising five passengers and three crew members (including a pilot, co-pilot, and a flight attendant), survived the incident. As of now, there have been no reported casualties, although the extent of injuries remains unknown.

Prompt response from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation led to the hospitalization of all those on board. Following the incident, the runway was swiftly cleared of debris, allowing normal airport operations to resume. This resumption followed comprehensive safety checks and clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The incident temporarily closed the runway, resulting in the diversion of five Vistara Airlines flights. Flights UK622 (originating from Varanasi) and UK124 (originating from Bangkok) were rerouted to Hyderabad, while UK933 (from Delhi), UK518 (from Kochi), and UK865 (from Dehradun) were redirected to Goa.

Weather and Location
The incident occurred near Runway 27 of Mumbai Airport, which had become slippery due to heavy rain. Reports indicate that visibility was limited to approximately 700 meters at the time of the accident.

Aircraft Information
The aircraft involved in the incident has been identified as a Learjet 45, a nine-seater super-light business jet produced by a division of Canada-based Bombardier Aviation. It was registered to VSR Ventures, a Bengaluru-based real estate development firm. The flight originated from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

This incident underscores the importance of safety protocols and the quick response of authorities and airline personnel in ensuring the well-being of passengers and crew during challenging situations.
