Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, held a meeting with a high-level international delegation in Chandigarh to discuss the proposal for establishing a world-class international university in the state.

The delegation was led by Professor Bernard Malik, President of the Leaders Institute Australia. During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on developing an institution that could offer globally competitive education and attract international academic collaboration.
Mann said the main objective of the state government is to ensure that youth from Punjab do not have to move abroad for higher education or employment opportunities. Instead, the government aims to bring foreign universities and multinational companies to Punjab, creating better opportunities within the state.
Discuss World-Class University in Punjab
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed university is expected to become a major centre for modern technology, information technology (IT), agribusiness education and global leadership training.
The delegation also included several prominent personalities, including former parliamentarian Dr Mark Robinson, Pastor Chris Aiton, Director of Favor Foundation, and Peter O’Callaghan, partner at MSI Taylor Wealth Management.
Welcoming the visiting members, Mann said their experience and global exposure could play an important role in linking Punjab’s education system with international academic networks.
He also emphasised that the state government is working to reduce brain drain by encouraging foreign investment in education and creating high-quality institutions within Punjab.
The Chief Minister added that strengthening the education sector and providing global-level opportunities to students would help talented youth contribute to the development of the state.
Officials said such initiatives are aimed at transforming Punjab into a hub for innovation, higher education and global partnerships, which could also attract investment and create new employment opportunities.
Mann stated that the proposed international university would be another important step toward the government’s vision of building a prosperous and vibrant “Rangla Punjab.”
