CM Bhagwant Mann-led AAP raises Punjab University issue; party delegation to meet Governor today
The issue has gained political significance in recent months, with debates intensifying over whether the university should remain under the Punjab government or be restructured as a central institution. The Bhagwant Mann government has taken a firm stand against any move to change its status, asserting that Panjab University has deep historical and cultural ties to the state.
Bhagwant Mann had stated that Panjab University symbolizes the state’s academic excellence
Earlier, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had stated that Panjab University symbolizes the state’s academic excellence and must remain a shared heritage of Punjab’s students and scholars. He reiterated that any attempt to dilute the university’s connection with the state would be strongly opposed by his government.
The AAP leadership has also raised concerns over funding challenges, infrastructure development, and representation in decision-making bodies within the university. The delegation’s meeting with the Governor aims to seek his intervention to ensure the state’s rights and the university’s interests are fully protected.
With this step, the Punjab government is reaffirming its commitment to strengthening higher education, promoting student welfare, and preserving the legacy of institutions that contribute to Punjab’s academic and cultural identity.
