Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly criticised the central government for allowing US planes carrying deported illegal immigrants to land at Amritsar Airport. He accused the Centre of attempting to defame Amritsar, a city known for its religious and cultural significance. Emphasising that Amritsar will never be allowed to turn into a deportation centre, CM Bhagwant Mann highlighted the city’s importance as home to sacred sites like Sri Harmandir Sahib, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, and Durgiana Temple.

‘Why No International Flights from Amritsar?’ – CM Bhagwant Mann Questions Centre

Expressing frustration over the Centre’s policies, CM Bhagwant Mann raised concerns about the lack of international flights from Amritsar Airport. He pointed out that Punjab’s long-standing demand for international flights from Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport has repeatedly been rejected, citing various reasons. However, the same airport is now being used for landing US planes carrying deported illegal immigrants. He questioned the Centre’s double standards and called for a transparent aviation policy.

Bhagwant Mann’s Surprise Visit to Amritsar Airport Amid Deportation Row

To assess the ongoing situation, CM Bhagwant Mann visited Amritsar Airport on Saturday. During his visit, he assured that the Punjab government is taking strict action against illegal travel agents who exploit innocent people by luring them into unauthorised immigration routes to the United States. Many of these individuals are later deported, creating distress for their families. He also announced that the Punjab government has arranged transportation to help deported illegal immigrants return to their hometowns safely.

Bhagwant Mann Demands Action Against Illegal Travel Agents

Another US plane carrying 119 illegal Indian immigrants was scheduled to land at Amritsar Airport on Saturday night. This comes after a similar flight on February 5 brought back 104 deported Indians. CM Bhagwant Mann criticised the central government’s handling of the situation, arguing that India should use its own aircraft to bring back its citizens rather than allowing US planes to land in Amritsar.

Demanding a crackdown on illegal travel agents, Bhagwant Mann urged strict legal action against those deceiving people into illegal immigration. He stated that such fraudulent practices are causing immense hardship for families, and only stringent measures can prevent further exploitation.
