Punjab: AAP MP pleads for the continuation of flights under UDAN, saying “Don’t disconnect Ludhiana”

Punjab: Sanjeev Arora, a Rajya Sabha representative for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia asking for the reinstatement of flights from Ludhiana in Punjab under UDAN, just as other airports in the state are doing so.

About UDAN

The Government of India created the programme “Let the Common Citizen of the Country Fly” with the goal of achieving Ude-Desh-Ka-Aam-Nagrik (UDAN). However, the AAP MP claims that some airports and UDAN operations in Punjab have still not been reopened even after COVID.
In his letter, Arora demanded that “resumption of flights to Ludhiana from Sahnewal airport till the time Halwara Airport is operational. There was a flight under UDAN to Ludhiana which was stopped in Covid times and never started again”.

The government promised that by beginning UDAN flights to Ludhiana, rural communities would be connected to large cities, and businesses would profit and expand.

Arora wrote in his letter

“I would like to apprise you that Ludhiana being one of biggest industrial cities not just in Punjab but also in the country and with over 5 million population it is imperative to resume flights to Ludhiana immediately.”
The AAP MP wrote in his letter, “I would request you to kindly direct the concerned officials to recapitulate Alliance Air for resumption of flights to Ludhiana at the earliest under UDAN.”
