Punjab News: The Punjab government, under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann, has intensified its war against drugs. In a bold move, officials demolished an illegal structure linked to drug dealer Budh Singh Budha. The action took place on Stadium Road in Sunam town, Sangrur, marking a significant step in the ongoing crackdown.
War Against Drugs: Punjab Govt Ramps Up Action
Punjab has been battling the drug menace for years. On February 28, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann set a strict 90-day deadline to curb the drug trade. Since then, authorities have demolished over 20 illegal structures across different districts.
The latest demolition in Sangrur holds special significance. This is the chief minister’s home district, and officials are taking strong measures to clean up the region. The demolished property belonged to the local market committee but had been misused for criminal activities, including drug dealings.
Demolition Drive Targets Drug Hotspots
Authorities acted swiftly after receiving complaints about the illegal activities at the site. Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal confirmed the property had become a drug hub.
“We had reports of this place being used for illegal drug sales and other criminal activities. This action is part of our larger campaign to root out such elements,” SSP Chahal said.
Budh Singh Budha has a history of drug-related crimes. Since 2010, he has faced multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Excise Act.
Punjab’s Crackdown on Drug Mafia Gains Momentum
This demolition follows another major action in Barnala, where authorities razed the property of a woman and her daughter involved in illegal drug trade. The Punjab government remains firm in its resolve to make the state drug-free.
With Bhagwant Mann leading the charge, the demolition drive is expected to continue, ensuring that no illegal drug operations thrive in Punjab.
