The Punjab government has implemented a new mining policy in the Punjab with the aim of curbing illegal mining. This will increase supply and will benefit the public of state. 

Harpal Singh Cheema, Minister Punjab Has Shared A Message On X.

Minister in the Mann government, Harpal Singh Cheema, has said that the new mining policy     will benefit the common people. Under the new policy, now landowners will also be able to mine. Along with this, the owners can lease or contract their land for 2-3 years. Also, the amount of royalty, which was earlier 73 paise per cubic foot, has now been increased to ₹ 1.70. The officer will personally visit the mining site and assess it and pay the royalty. According to the government, landowners could extract sand and gravel themselves. There is no need for auction under the new mining policy.

What Are The Objectives Of New Policy?

The Punjab state wants to generate more revenue. As royalty rate for sand and gravel are fixed, the government has made plans to monitor all the sites and check posts with the help of cameras and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The moves will untimely help public as increased income could be spent on the welfare of public.

Twice Survey in a Year by the Punjab Government

The Punjab government led by CM Mann will conduct survey twice a year to restrict illegal mining as per new mining policy. This step will help to identify decreasing or new areas of mining. Moreover, the land owners will also be able to get the survey done after applying through the government. It is clear by the Bhagwant Mann government that landowners will be able to mine on their land only after getting environmental clearance from the SIA. Earlier, the department used to give EC and NOC. But now in the new policy, the land owners himself will be able to take permissions from the concerned departments.
