The Punjab Cabinet is set to discuss a Rs 200-crore relief package on Monday as a one-time settlement policy for 1,145 industrialists who have pending dues for industrial plots allotted before January 2020, according to sources.

The government is also planning to restart interactions with industrialists under the Sarkar Sannatkar Milni initiative, allowing policymakers to understand industry concerns and frame investment-friendly policies. This initiative is expected to roll out after the Budget session, which is likely to begin in the third week of this month.

Waiver of Penal Interest, Industrialists to Pay Simple Interest

As per reports, Rs 330 crore is pending towards industrialists for plots allotted by Punjab State Industrial Export Corporation (PSIEC). Under the proposed policy, penal interest is likely to be waived, while industrialists will be required to pay 8% simple interest by December 2025. The move is seen as a major step to revive industrial confidence in the cash-strapped state.

AAP Government’s Proactive Measures Post Delhi Poll Setback

This is the third major initiative by the AAP-led Punjab government in recent weeks after the party’s electoral setback in the Delhi polls last month. The government has taken an aggressive stance on law and order, industrial growth, and corruption.

Recent Government Actions

Crackdown on Drug Menace – The government has launched demolition drives, implementing the "bulldozer model" to destroy properties owned by drug peddlers.

Anti-Corruption Measures – A major drive against corruption in government offices led to the dismissal of 52 police personnel.

Land Record Digitization – To eliminate corruption in tehsil offices, the government is introducing an online system for land registration.

The relief package for industrialists and policy revamps reflect Punjab’s renewed push towards economic stability, investment growth, and governance reforms.
