Rajasthan court pulls up state government over physical appearance of prisoners

The physical appearance of prisoners in court has drawn severe criticism from the Rajasthan High Court.

A division bench led by Chief Justice A.G. Masih made a verbal remark about the recent Bharatpur shootout case, asking why the prisoner was being sent by bus to Bharatpur for examination when the court had previously ruled that physical examinations of prisoners should only be performed in exceptional circumstances.

The court hauling up the government said, “The prisoner was murdered on the bus. During this, not only was the safety of the common people threatened, but along with the loss of time of the jail guards, the roadways were also damaged. “

It aimed to learn the names of the prisons without video conferencing capabilities and the causes behind them.

Court ask government to submit compliance report:

The government has also been requested by the court to submit a compliance report on the 45 items that have been listed. While hearing the suo motu cognizance matter pertaining to the jail arrangements, the court issued the directives.

Nyay mitra Prateek Kasliwal informed the court during the hearing that the state government was not serious about enforcing the court’s instructions. The prisoner was carried via bus, and while on the trip, he was killed, in violation of the court’s order for the convicts to arrive through the VC.

According to the court, the state government has observed the effects of defying the injunction in this regard. It questioned the government’s representative, Advocate General M.S. Singhvi, as to why every prisoner was not brought before the VC.

The AG then stated that the court frequently rejects VC. There wouldn’t be enough resources, according to the court. The government needs to ensure that VC is available everywhere.

The government was questioned over the compensation clause in the event that a prisoner died.

The AG responded by stating that the bill will be introduced to the Assembly on Tuesday. Many provisions have been provided for the convicts.

It is important to note that Kuldeep, a murder suspect, was being taken by police in a bus to the Bharatpur court for a hearing.

The miscreants boarded the bus at the Amoli toll plaza, where they attacked the police officers while wearing chilli powder in their eyes.

They then fired about fifteen rounds, which killed Kuldeep. Vijaypal, another accused party, sustained injury in the incident. Additionally, two passengers were shot during the event and were injured.
