Sharad Pawar Dismisses NCP Rift, Affirms Ajit Pawar’s Stature as Party Leader Amid Speculations

Sharad Pawar

Sharad Pawar: Ahead of the important gathering of the Opposition’s I.N.D.I.A bloc in Mumbai, Sharad Pawar reaffirmed on Friday that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) remains intact and there was is no rift within the party.

What did Sharad Pawar say on Ajit Pawar?

Speaking to journalists in his hometown Baramati within the Pune district, NCP leader Sharad Pawar addressed the matter a day after his daughter and the party’s working president, Supriya Sule, emphasized that Ajit Pawar continues to hold the position of a senior leader and MLA within the party. The context for this father-daughter assertion related to Ajit Pawar’s switch to the ruling NDA camp.

He had led a significant portion of the party’s legislators to become the deputy chief minister in coallition with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis within the alliance government under the leadership of Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde. It was this alliance that led to the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

When questioned regarding Sule’s assertion that there is no division within the NCP and that Ajit Pawar remains a leader of the party, Sharad Pawar responded: “Yes, there is no question about it…how can anybody say that there is a split in NCP? There’s no question that Ajit Pawar is our party leader.” Saying further, he stated, “What does a split in political party mean?” he said.

The insurgency received backing from Sharad Pawar’s longstanding associate, Praful Patel, along with Sunil Tatkare, who serves as the national president and state president of the rebel faction. The consecutive declarations made by both Pawar and Sule occurred shortly before the I.N.D.I.A meeting scheduled for August 31 to September 1 at Mumbai’s Grand Hyatt Hotel. This gathering will bring together 80 prominent leaders, encompassing chief ministers, former chief ministers, and party presidents from over 26 political parties.

What did Supriya Sule say?

A day earlier, Sule, the Baramati MP, had said: “There is no split in NCP. Ours is one single party though one group is in power and the other is in opposition. Ajit Pawar is a senior leader of our party.”
