Uttarakhand News: In a significant development, air services are set to commence in Uttarakhand, connecting Dehradun to multiple destinations including Ayodhya, Amritsar, and Pantnagar, among others. The state government is on the verge of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Alliance Air to facilitate these air services, with the Chief Secretary Radha Raturi conducting a meeting on Wednesday at the secretariat to discuss the enhanced air connectivity.
The Chief Secretary informed that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, will soon launch the Air Connectivity Scheme. The MOU with Alliance Air is expected to be formalized shortly.
Under the pilot project, the state government plans to initiate fixed-wing flights on the Varanasi-Pantnagar-Varanasi and Pantnagar-Pithoragarh-Pantnagar routes, utilizing the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support model. Additionally, air services will be introduced on the Amritsar-Dehradun-Amritsar, Dehradun-Pantnagar-Dehradun, and Dehradun-Ayodhya-Dehradun routes. These flights, operated on the 70-seater ATR-72 aircraft, are expected to commence in the first week of March.
Officials, including Additional Chief Secretary S. Ravi Shankar, were present in the meeting to discuss the modalities and implementation of the expanded air connectivity.
