Amid protest police conducts last rites of Class 10 student, who was beaten to death by fellow mates

UP police, last rites

Tuesday night, Prayagraj Police performed the last rites for a Class 10 student who was allegedly beaten to death by other students from a different community in the city after an argument.

The student’s family and the townspeople demanded that they be given the student’s body in Khiri village, and protests were held during the rites.

Details indicate that the police performed the students’ funeral after they saw a massive deal of commotion nearby. Members of the student’s family were there for the final rites, and the police were stationed at the ghat to provide protection.

Fight at school

According to reports, there had been a fight at the school between the victim and the accused children. However, the teachers were able to resolve the issue. Later, the student was murdered on Monday while going back home from school with his sister who is student of Class 9.

The victim allegedly reacted angrily to the accused’s remarks and harassment of the victim’s sister by protesting and fighting with the group. Various protests erupted in the meanwhile as the villagers wanted to handle the student’s body.

In an effort to calm the situation, DM Sanjay Khatri and Commissioner Ramesh Sharma spoke to the throng while using a microphone.

The student’s body was later on taken in an ambulance from his home in Khiri to Dara Ganj ghat, where his final rites were carried out in front of a small number of his family members.

In order to prevent any untoward situations, a large police presence was stationed in the vicinity.
