BJP Sweeps Municipal Polls, Wins All 17 Mayoral Seats

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained the mayor’s seat in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, in the counting of votes held on Saturday in the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Elections (UP Nikay Chunav Election Results). The voters chose the mayor.

According to the State Election Commission, out of 17 municipal corporations of UP, the election results of 15 seats have been declared and on all of them the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates have been elected as mayors.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had done 50 rallies in a hurry in the UP civic elections. Yogi had made law and order a big issue in his rallies. Here, in the election of Municipal President, BJP has made a lead in 99 out of 199 seats.

There is a fight going on between SP and independents. Voting for the municipal elections in 75 districts of the state was held in two phases on May 4 and May 11 respectively.

Voting was held in both phases for the election of 17 mayors, 1420 corporators, 199 chairpersons of municipal councils, 5327 members of municipal councils, 544 chairpersons of town panchayats and 7178 members of town panchayats in the municipal elections.

Voting was held to elect 17 mayors and 1,401 councillors, while 19 councilors were elected unopposed.

Voting was held to elect 198 chairpersons and 5,260 members of municipal councils in the state. Voters also voted to decide the fate of 542 chairpersons of Nagar Panchayats and 7,104 members of Nagar Panchayats. Overall, 162 people’s representatives were elected unopposed, while 83,378 candidates were in the fray for 14,522 posts.
