CM Yogi Adityanath Cabinet Approves Operation of 1,725 Air-Conditioned Electric Buses in 18 Cities

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, has approved the operation of 1,725 air-conditioned electric buses across 18 cities under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, marking a significant step toward strengthening sustainable urban transportation in the state.

According to the decision, the new fleet of AC electric buses will be deployed in major cities including Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Noida (including Jewar), Mathura-Vrindavan, Agra, Prayagraj, and Meerut, among others. The initiative aims to improve public transport services while promoting environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

Officials stated that the GCC model will enable efficient operation and maintenance of the buses while ensuring quality services for commuters. The project is expected to reduce pollution levels, improve urban connectivity, and provide comfortable travel options for residents and visitors.

The deployment of electric buses is expected to strengthen public transportation infrastructure in rapidly growing urban centers and support the state’s broader goals of sustainable development and clean energy adoption.

Government officials said the initiative will not only improve passenger convenience but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and fuel consumption. The project is part of Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing efforts to modernize urban transport systems and create efficient, eco-friendly mobility networks.
