CM Yogi Adityanath directs ministers to adopt austerity and fuel conservation measures

CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday issued a series of directives aimed at promoting austerity, energy conservation and responsible governance during the first meeting of the expanded cabinet in Lucknow.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the instructions were issued in view of current global circumstances and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to citizens regarding fuel conservation and responsible resource usage.

The Chief Minister said fuel conservation is not only an economic necessity but also a national responsibility and asked ministers to lead by example.

CM Yogi Adityanath: Ministers asked to use public transport

As part of the directives, ministers have been advised to use public transport such as metro services, buses, e-rickshaws or carpooling at least once a week.

The state government also instructed departments to reduce official vehicle fleets by up to 50 per cent in an effort to minimise fuel consumption and administrative expenditure.

Push for digital governance and reduced travel

The Chief Minister further directed ministers and officials to avoid foreign travel for the next six months unless absolutely necessary.

Officials were also instructed to encourage digital and hybrid work culture within government functioning to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. The government said these measures are intended to strengthen responsible governance practices while promoting environmental sustainability and resource conservation.
