The incident occurred late at night as millions of devotees gathered for the sacred Mauni Amavasya bath at Triveni Sangam. According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the stampede broke out due to the overwhelming crowd pressure near Akhara Marg. Devotees attempting to cross barricades were injured, with some fatalities reported. The exact cause is still under investigation, but the sheer volume of pilgrims seems to have played a significant role.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been actively monitoring the situation. He held an emergency meeting with top officials, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, and Home Secretary, to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
CM Yogi appealed to the public, saying, “Do not believe in rumors. The situation is tense but under control.” He emphasised that medical teams are on the ground, providing immediate care to the injured.
