Noida International Airport: The Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar is all set for a monumental expansion. It would now feature 5 runways in place of the existing 2 and a massive allocation of Rs. 750 crore has been announced for aviation research, operations and maintenance while Rs. 1,100 crore has been allocated for land acquisition.

With the first phase of Noida International Airport already complete, this upgrade positions Jewar as India’s largest airport, rivalling Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and Mumbai’s Navi Mumbai Airport in scale and ambition.

Noida International Airport- Cutting-Edge Research and Land Push

Innovation takes the centrestage with a Rs. 750 crore budget dedicated to aviation research, maintenance and operations. The funding would establish an Aviation Research Centre focused on sustainable tech such as AI-driven air traffic management, electric aircraft charging and green fuels. It is also expected that state-of-the-art maintenance hangars would service next-generation planes, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem.

Economic Ripple Effects and Job Creation

According to a KPMG study, the expansion would promise a Rs 1.5 lakh crore economic boost over a period of 25 years. Moreover, it would directly as well as indirectly help in generating 50,000 direct jobs in aviation, hospitality and logistics, and lakhs more indirectly. For CM Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh, this cements its status as an investment magnet.

The Jewar Airport is expected to redefine life of more than 20 million residents in the National Capital Region (NCR). Slated to be inaugurated in the month of February 2026, it would alleviate congestion on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) while unlocking unprecedented opportunities. It would help people from Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad cut travel commutes by as much as 50-85 percent.

Furthermore, the IT hubs in Noida and the manufacturing belts in Greater Noida would stand to gain from enhanced cargo facilities, attracting investments and fostering MSME growth. Also, business and leisure travellers from NCR’s corporate corridors will enjoy seamless connectivity, positioning the region as a global hub.
