Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann: Punjab’s ‘War Against Drugs’ Achieving Ground-Level Success

Punjab Police reports show that record quantities of heroin have been seized in 2025, accounting for a majority share of India’s total recovery.

CM Bhagwant mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has been pursuing its ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign with unprecedented intensity, and the results are now clearly visible across the state. Compared to 2022, the year 2025 has witnessed a remarkable rise in NDPS cases filed, arrests made, and heroin seized — demonstrating both the government’s commitment and the people’s participation in fighting the menace.

Increased Arrests and Heroin Seizures

Punjab Police reports show that record quantities of heroin have been seized in 2025, accounting for a majority share of India’s total recovery. Thousands of arrests have been made under the NDPS Act, hitting hard at the roots of the drug trafficking network. This surge in enforcement reflects the Mann government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.

People’s Participation Strengthening the Fight

Senior AAP Punjab leader Baltej Pannu highlighted that this campaign has become a mass movement. Villagers are no longer silent spectators; they are actively sharing information about drug traffickers with authorities. This cooperation has allowed police and enforcement agencies to respond swiftly and effectively, choking supply chains and punishing offenders.

Community and Rehabilitation Efforts

The Mann government’s Nasha Mukti Morchas (de-addiction units) are working tirelessly at the village level to spread awareness and guide addicted youth towards rehabilitation. Awareness drives, counseling camps, and educational programs are ensuring that the fight against drugs is not only punitive but also reformative.

Strong Conviction Rates and Technology-Driven Policing

Punjab has also maintained one of the country’s highest conviction rates in drug-related cases. Advanced surveillance, modern policing techniques, and strict monitoring at borders have further strengthened the state’s anti-drug efforts. With special helplines like 1800-330-1100, citizens can confidentially report drug or gangster activities, ensuring that the campaign remains people-centric.

CM Bhagwant Mann’s Vision

CM Bhagwant Mann has reiterated that the mission is not merely about arrests and seizures but about building a drug-free, secure, and progressive Punjab. He emphasized that by protecting the youth from drugs and offering them opportunities for growth, Punjab will regain its position as a land of prosperity and chardi kala.
