UP Aadhaar News: Amid SIR 2025, Aadhaar Loses Its Validity as Birth Certificate, Find Out Which Documents Are Now Required

Uttar Pradesh will no longer accept Aadhaar as a birth certificate or proof of date of birth, requiring verified documents for official records.

UP Aadhaar News: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Aadhaar will no longer be accepted as a birth certificate or proof of date of birth. The Planning Department clarified that all departments must comply immediately, as Aadhaar contains self-declared information without independent verification. This move ensures authentic and verified birth records across the state.

Which Documents Will Now Be Accepted as Birth Proof

With Aadhaar no longer valid as a birth certificate, the state has specified which documents will now be considered legally acceptable:

  • Official Birth Certificate:

Certificates issued by hospitals or the health department at the time of birth remain the most reliable proof of date of birth.

  • School Records or Board Certificates:

Educational documents such as high school certificates or board marksheets that mention the date of birth are now valid proofs.

  • Municipal or Local Body Certificates:

Certificates issued by municipal authorities or local civic bodies containing verified birth details are also acceptable.

In short, only documents verified by hospitals, schools, or municipal authorities will be accepted. Aadhaar, being an identity card without verified birth details, is no longer valid for this purpose.

Understanding SIR 2025 and Its Impact

This change comes amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision 2025 (SIR 2025), which focuses on tightening the verification of sensitive identity and birth-related information. While the government has not explicitly linked this directive to SIR 2025, the timing indicates a connection.

SIR 2025 aims to prevent the misuse of documents and ensure that records used for official purposes are authentic and reliable. Disallowing Aadhaar as a birth certificate aligns with these efforts, ensuring that all citizens provide verified documents for official purposes.

UP Aadhaar News: What This Means for Citizens

If you have been using Aadhaar as proof of date of birth, you will now need to obtain or present official birth certificates, school records, or municipal certificates. Government offices, schools, and other authorities that previously accepted Aadhaar will now require these verified documents. Individuals without valid proof should contact local municipal authorities, hospitals, or schools to obtain the correct certificates.
