UP deputy chief medical officer found dead in Prayagraj hotel room

On Monday morning, the deputy chief medical officer (CMO) of the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh was discovered dead in a hotel room. After knocking on the door of the Hotel Vitthal and not receiving a response, a staff member broke it open to find the body of the deputy CMO Sunil Kumar.

The scene has been reached by a forensics team, and an investigation is under progress.

Kumar, 51, was from Varanasi and was in charge of the vaccination drive in Prayagraj.

Reporters were informed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepak Bhukar that at around 9.30 am, Dr Sunil Kumar Singh’s room door was not being opened.

He continued, “Primarily, it appears to be a case of suicide,” adding that when police arrived at the scene and pushed the door open, they discovered Dr. Singh hanging from the ceiling fan. According to Bhukar, police have taken the body into their custody, sent it for a postmortem, and are now pursuing additional legal options.

Satish Singh, Dr. Singh’s driver, said that Dr. Singh had booked into the hotel on Sunday night and was assigned to Bailey Hospital. He claimed that Dr. Singh used to commute to work from his Varanasi residence.

He claimed that early in the day, Dr. Singh’s wife called him. She requested him to check on her husband because she said he wasn’t returning her calls.

Around 9.30 a.m., Dr. Singh’s room was approached by Satish Singh, who claims to have knocked on it many times before calling the hotel personnel when no one answered.

Notably, the Coffee House is just close to the Hotel Vitthal in this sector of the Civil Lines.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Prayagraj police have taken blood stain samples from inside the partially destroyed office of murdered mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, which is located in the Chakia region of the city.

The stairs and a white piece of cloth kept on a sofa in Atiq’s office both had blood traces, according to the investigation.

A knife was also found at the scene, according to the police. The matter is currently the subject of more study.
