Vande Bharat Express: The North Eastern Railway Administration has finalized a proposal to run a Vande Bharat Express that would run from Ballia via Chhapra to Gorakhpur-Gomtipur.
The train is likely to operate from March 2026 itself. The train would be the third Vande Bharat Express that would run via Gorakhpur after Gorakhpur-Patliputra and Gorakhpur-Prayagraj Vande Bharat trains.
Vande Bharat Express Updates
The Ballia via Chhapra to Gorakhpur-Gomtipur train would be the second Vande Bharat train via Gorakhpur to travel to Bihar, improving regional connectivity. There are also plans to run sleeper Vande Bharat between Gorakhpur, Agra and Delhi.
DON'T MISS
Faster Connectivity for Daily Commutes
For decades, residents along the Ballia-Chhapra corridor have long counted on slower conventional trains, which are often characterized by overcrowding and delays. With top speed of 160 kmph, the Vande Bharat would slash journey times significantly.
Commuters from Chhapra heading to Gomtinagar for work or family visits will save hours weekly, reducing fatigue and boosting productivity. Students traveling to universities in Gorakhpur or Lucknow’s Gomtinagar will attend classes without the stress of long journeys. Elderly residents, who avoid long and tiring bus rides, would gain a comfortable, air-conditioned option with modern amenities like bio-vacuum toilets and Wi-Fi.
Economic Lifeline for Businesses
Ballia, an important agricultural hub famous for vegetables and bananas, is known for transporting produce to urban markets in Gorakhpur and Lucknow. However, perishable goods often spoiled en route due to delays but the top speed of Vande Bharat would ensure fresher and faster deliveries.
Chhapra’s textile and handicraft would benefit too. Artisans specializing in sarees or Bihar’s Madhubani paintings to buyers in Gomtinagar usually face high freight costs on trucks. Parcel services by Vande Bharat could help them compete nationally and internationally by receiving services at highly competitive rates. Furthermore, Gorakhpur’s leather and food processing units would gain quicker access to Bihar’s raw materials, streamlining supply chains and reducing operational costs.
