Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey launches Bluesky, an alternative to the popular micro blogging site

Bluesky: Former CEO and co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has introduced Bluesky, a new Twitter competitor that is currently in beta testing on the Apple App Store. Bluesky is currently accessible as an invite-only beta and is funded by Twitter. The app is a microblogging platform that provides a straightforward user interface and allows users to post updates with up to 256 characters, including images. The app’s discover tab offers recommendations for “who to follow” and a feed of recent Bluesky updates. The Bluesky project began in 2019, and the company was founded in 2022 as a stand-alone business that specializes in the research and development of decentralized social networks.

Simple user interface and micro-blogging platform

Users of Bluesky can share, mute, and block accounts, but there aren’t any advanced tools yet, like the ability to add accounts to lists. The app reportedly made its debut on February 17 and had 2,000 installs during the testing phase. Similar to Twitter, the app’s user profiles allow users to search for and follow other users. These profiles include a profile picture, background, bio, and metrics. Likes, reposts, follows, and replies are among the notifications that can be viewed, but there aren’t any DMs.

Twitter-funded and received $13 million in funding

After leaving Twitter, Dorsey discussed Bluesky and called it “an open, decentralized standard for social media.” In October 2022, Dorsey posted on Twitter that Bluesky intends to be a competitor to any company trying to own the underlying fundamentals for social media or the data of the people using it. The goal of Bluesky, a company that last year received $13 million in funding, is to investigate and create technologies that permit free and open public discourse. The business has also made it clear that, regardless of what transpires, they will continue to work towards their goal of creating a reliable protocol for public discourse.
