About the Viral Video
In the now viral video, Dr. Sehrawat says using gas geysers can be lethal. She remarked poorly ventilated gas geysers can end up releasing harmful carbon monoxide that can cause nausea, fatigue, dizziness and severe headache. In acute cases, continuous exposure to carbon monoxide can result in fainting, confusion or even irreversible brain damage.
In many tier 2 and 3 cities, gas geysers are common because of the low cost of operation. However, they are not safe and have already killed countless people.
Government Order of 2018
The Central Government had issued a quality control order in 2018 to bring these gas geysers using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) under mandatory quality control. The standard mandates combustion efficiency while placing a limit on the carbon dioxide and CO ratio in the exhaust gas. It was also mandated that the gas supply is cut off and the burner must get extinguished after 2 minutes of uninterrupted use.
The standard also mandated that a safety device must be present to cut off the supply of gas in case water stops flowing or does not flow while in operation. Moreover, the product was mandated to carry a warning that it is meant only for use in well-ventilated areas and not in closed bathrooms.
However, deaths and injuries from gas geysers have continued in many parts of the country.
