Begusarai Viral Video: Pakadwa Vivah in Bihar has once again grabbed headlines on social media. A shocking incident captured in a viral video from Begusarai district showcases a BPSC teacher being forced into marriage under distressing circumstances. Avnish Kumar, a newly appointed teacher who recently cleared the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, endured a harrowing ordeal as he was abducted, assaulted and coerced into marrying a woman who claimed they had been in a four-year-long relationship.
The viral video that brought this incident to light was shared on the X account, "FirstBiharJharkhand."
#Begusarai #BPSC #Marriage #Teacher #JabriyaJodi #Bihar… pic.twitter.com/2C3ZqneGYh

The video shows a distressed BPSC teacher being compelled to marry a woman named Gunjan at a temple in Bihar's Jinendpur Panchayat area. The caption accompanying the video read, “BPSC teacher's forced marriage, girl said- had affair for four years, refused to marry when he got a job.”
The incident occurred when Avnish Kumar, on his way to school, was intercepted by two Scorpio vehicles. Armed men forcibly took him from his e-rickshaw and escorted him to a temple, where the wedding rituals were conducted against his will.
Gunjan, the woman involved, alleged that she and Avnish were in a committed relationship for several years. She claimed he had promised to marry her, frequently visited her family and even introduced her to his school and home in Katihar. However, according to Gunjan, after securing his government job through the BPSC exam, Avnish broke off contact and refused to fulfill his promise.
Faced with what she described as betrayal, Gunjan’s family allegedly took matters into their own hands, leading to the forced marriage.
Avnish, however, denied all allegations of a romantic relationship. He claimed the abduction and subsequent forced wedding were premeditated actions orchestrated by Gunjan and her family. In his statement, he accused them of physical assault and harassment.
This incident highlights the prevalence of Pakadwa Vivah, a disturbing practice where men are forced into marriage under duress, often at gunpoint. Policedata shows that 2024 has recorded the highest number of such cases in three decades, underscoring the need for stricter law enforcement and public awareness.
Both Avnish Kumar and Gunjan have approached the authorities. Avnish lodged a complaint against Gunjan’s family for kidnapping and physical assault, while Gunjan filed a counter-complaint seeking justice for what she claims is a broken promise.
