Months before his sudden death, businessman Sunjay Kapur had shared his long-term vision and the values he hoped his family would follow after he was gone. In a candid podcast interview, he spoke about his focus on trust, unity and living a life built on purpose. Kapur was also known as the ex-husband of actor Karisma Kapoor.
He died on June 13 in England after swallowing a bee during a polo match, which led to cardiac arrest. He was 57. His funeral was held in New Delhi, attended by Karisma, their kids Samaira and Kiaan, Kareena Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan. Sunjay is survived by his wife Priya Sachdev and his four children.
Sunjay Kapur Wanted His Family To Stay United
In an episode of the Indian Silicon Valley podcast, recorded just three months before his death, Sunjay shared that values like “trust and respect” were most important to him. “It’s important that a family comes together and stays together,” he said.
He also revealed that he and Priya Sachdev were taking parenting coaching sessions and attending weekly classes on the Bhagavad Gita. He added, “We come from a blended family, so it’s not always easy. But we’ve been very fortunate to have a system where we all work together, where we love each other. And I want that to continue even after my wife and I’s lifetime.”
His 10-Year Plan Focused on Family And Health
Sunjay Kapur described himself as a planner. He shared, “In October, I wrote down a 10-year plan for myself; not goals, but things I will focus on.” He spoke about balancing both work and non-work commitments in the plan.
He was passionate about health and sport. He said, “Sport is very important to me, health and fitness are very important to me. I play active polo, I run a team.” His plan included spending more time with family and focusing on what truly mattered. “It’s a great luxury to be the master of your own time,” he added.
Besides personal goals, Sunjay held important roles in his family business and other institutions. He was on the board of Sona Comstar, a Rs 40,000 crore company, and also served as a trustee for Doon School.
