Artemis Accords, semiconductors and technology mark PM Modi’s US visit

PM Modi’s US visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US has resulted in a space treaty between New Delhi and Washington. India has decided to join the Artemis Accords.
The White House on Thursday said that India’s ISRO and United States’ NASA have agreed on a joint space mission in 2024.
The Artemis Accords lay a framework for collaboration for the exploration of outer space. The ultimate aim of these Accords is for the exploration of Mars and other celestial bodies. Through the Artemis Accords, the United States and its partner countries aim to revisit Moon.
In Greek mythology, Artemis is a female hunter with bows and arrows.

Collaboration in semiconductors


As reported by Mint, Indian and American companies will also partner in semiconductors to promote supply chain diversification.
Micron Technology and Indian National Semiconductor Mission will collaborate to set up a state-of-the-art semiconductor assembly and test plant in India. Micron Technology will invest $800 million as part of this collaboration. The total investment for this project will be $2.75 billion. Indian companies will also invest in this supply chain enhancement project.
Two more companies, Applied Materials and Lamb Research will also set up their facilities in India as part of the semiconductor collaboration programme.


Defence and technology


The Times of India has reported that GE and India’s HAL have signed a deal to manufacture aircraft engines in India. These engines will be used by the aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
GE’s CEO H Lawrence Culp met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington on Thursday.
Mint says that India and the US have also signed an agreement on AI technologies. Both countries are also working together in “advanced telecommunication including 5G and 6G technologies.”
A White House official also said that American and Indian Universities will collaborate in STEM for greater people-to-people ties.
