Saharanpur Video: Hijab Removed, Girls Assaulted by Islamic Clerics Over Suspicion of Talking to Hindu Boy, FIR Filed

Saharanpur Viral Video: In an awful incident from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, two young women became victims of mob aggression on December 11, 2024. The women, both wearing hijabs, were falsely accused of talking to Hindu boys, leading to public humiliation in broad daylight. The mob forcibly removed their hijabs, slapped them, hurled abuses, and recorded the ordeal. These disturbing videos, later shared on social media, have drawn widespread condemnation.

Girls Targeted in Deoband Over Hijab, Hindu Boy Allegations

The incident occurred near Waqf Darul Uloom in Deoband when the girls were approached by a motorcyclist seeking directions to Saharanpur. Mistaking the interaction as mingling with Hindu boys, locals gathered and began assaulting the women. Despite their repeated attempts to explain the situation.

Adding to their humiliation, the assailants threatened to involve the girls’ families. According to the victims, the motorcyclist and another boy present at the scene were from the Muslim community, and the interaction was limited to asking for directions. However, this clarification failed to stop the mob's aggression.

FIR Filed as Police Act Swiftly After Saharanpur Viral Video

Following the incident, the victims filed a complaint at the Deoband police station, detailing the harassment they faced. On December 13, the police registered an FIR against unidentified individuals after analysing the viral videos that captured the assault.

"A woman lodged a complaint stating that while she and her sister were returning home after visiting relatives near Waqf Darul Uloom, a man on a motorcycle asked them for directions. While helping him, locals gathered, misbehaved with the girls, used abusive language, and recorded videos, which were later circulated on social media."

One suspect has already been detained, identified through the viral footage, and authorities are actively working to apprehend others involved in the incident.

The Saharanpur viral video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning the act as an attack on personal dignity and a reflection of growing intolerance. The forcible removal of the hijab, in particular, has been criticised as an assault on religious and cultural identity.
