6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea’s Kimbe Region, USGS

Papua New Guinea: On Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the Kimbe region of Papua New Guinea was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 582.6 km (362 miles).

Turkey Suffers 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake and Rising Death Toll

Also Turkey experienced two earthquakes with a combined magnitude of 7.8 on January 6. According to the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the death toll from the quakes that happened two weeks earlier has increased to 41,156; the number is likely to rise further given that 385,000 apartments have been destroyed or significantly damaged and that there are still many people whose whereabouts are unknown.

Gujarat’s Amreli District Experiences Three Light Tremors in Two Days


According to a representative of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), the Amreli district of Gujarat experienced three light tremors over the course of two days last week. These tremors were captured by the ISR, which is in charge of monitoring seismic activity in the area.
