7.6-magnitude earthquake strikes again, paralyses Turkey and Syria, death toll 1300

Asia Minor, which includes South Eastern Turkey and Northern Syria, was shaken by a strong earthquake that caused widespread destruction and reduced structures to rubble. The death toll from the earthquake is currently above 1600, and it is projected to grow.

As rescue teams look for the wreckage in cities and villages under the heaps of debris, the number of those still trapped beneath rubble is expected to climb.

More relief and rescue teams are arriving from all over the world to assist Turkey and the region in their hour of need as the rescue mission is underway on a war footing.

Significant earthquakes were also reported in Cyprus, Lebanon, and Syria, which caused widespread building collapse and prompted searches for survivors beneath the debris in the snowy streets.

US Geological Survey

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the earthquake was roughly 20 miles (33 kilometres) away from Gaziantep, a significant city and the capital of a province. From the town of Nurdagi, it was roughly 26 kilometres (16 miles) away. As per the U.S. Geological Survey, the big earthquake's epicentre was 18 kilometres (11 miles) beneath the surface. About 10 minutes later, a 6.7 temblor shook the earth strongly.
